Do you ever feel like you’ve got a target painted to your chest? You should. In fact, you should feel like the Predator is lurking with his nifty tri-laser targeting system homing in on you and his thermals enabled to determine the exact location of your wallet at a distance.

  • Happy Mother’s Day! 7 money saving tips for new Moms

Posted on May 10th, 2009 Tommy No comments

In celebration of Mother’s day, we figured it would be worthwhile to post a few tips for first time Moms on how to save a few dollars along this new and exciting journey called parenthood.  We hope you enjoy these tips and if you have any of your own please feel free to leave them in the comment section below.

1 Buy clothing from a thrift store or from Garage sales. Babies grow so quickly that you may want to consider buying some clothing a few sizes bigger than they actually are. If everything fits perfectly they’re going to grow out of it in no time.

2 Borrow clothing or baby gear off of friends. Unless they are planning on having another baby in the near future, chances are likely they’ll be more than happy to help you out with your new little bundle of joy. And most of the time “borrow” means “Here. Take it. I don’t want to see it again unless it’s on your kid”

3 Wait until after your baby shower to start buying clothing or gear. You’ll never know what you’ll receive!

4 Resist the urge to go all out decorating your new babies room! While this seems like a right of passage, you’re only going to be redecorating it a couple years down the road. If you must, keep it minimal and gender neutral. If you have another child of a different gender, you’ll want them to feel comfortable too.

  • Hooking Up Austin

Posted on May 8th, 2009 Lisa 2 comments

I have an admission to make… while I am a native Austinite, I took a slight diversion to California for several years after graduation. The one thing I learned in my many travels and moves over the years is this: sometimes there is nothing sweeter than being home.

As the new Austin Area HookUP Gal, I have to admit – while I enjoy hooking up all of my fellow Austinites with great deals and offers (slowly but surely, I promise!), I’m selfishly taking advantage of an opportunity to visit ALL the great local businesses that make Austin truly unique. You know that list (we all have one) – the one where you write down a certain restaurant or fitness studio or store you want to check out? Well – I’m hitting that list on a daily basis. How cool is that?!

So hello Austin! If there’s anything on your list that you want me to visit – shoot me a message, DM me on Twitter – just let me know! I can’t promise anything, but the more people I have searching for one special HookUP, maybe I can get it. It’s called strength in numbers. Doesn’t hurt to try, right?

So stay tuned for more offers to come. And enjoy this great city alongside me!
